Earlier this year, I was outside talking with a neighbor. In the background, a church bell tolled six. I ask this neighbor about where the sound of the bells was coming from. I was told it was from St. Mark’s.
I have to admit that in my time in this neighborhood, I’ve never really known where the sounds emitted from. I’ve taken it for granted. But I do notice them, regularly. Tolling on the hour, and especially during the holidays and Sunday evenings. It made me wonder how many others are unaware of where the sounds are coming from. And for those of you who are aware, do you know the story behind it.
The following is a history and a look into the “Bells of St. Mark’s.”
