THE IBEN SERIES at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1420 W. Moss Avenue, is pleased to announce an arts event especially for children … and children of all ages!
On Sunday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. a multi-media arts event centering around Sergei Prokofiev’s wonderful twentieth century masterwork, “Peter and the Wolf” will commence.
Gathering at 2 p.m. in the O’Neill Parish Hall, youngsters will have an opportunity to create finger puppets and drawings that represent characters from the story. Following the creative time, we will gather to hear the outline of the story to be presented.
Then we will all be treated to cookies and ice cream to enjoy our time together. Following the goodies, we move to the church where nine instrumentalists from Bradley University along with the church’s music director, Joshua G. Hearn at the piano will perform the score.
There is a clever narration that accompanies the music which brings the whole story to life in both word and note. Children will be encouraged to use their puppets to bring a visual aspect to the story as well. More than a concert, it’s an arts ‘happening’.
The entire event should take approximately an hour, so children from Kindergarten through sixth grade (and beyond if they wish) should have a friendly time frame within which to work. Everyone is cordially invited. If you have a child or children … bring them.
If you have grandchildren, it’s a perfect way to spend quality time together. Neighbors and friends, too, are invited to come along for a joyful experience.
Admission is free … and everything you need is provided. Children are encouraged to wear ‘comfortable’ clothing that is OK to get a bit messy!
