Greetings! I cannot recall a time when such a record amount of money has been spent for improvements just a stone’s throw from where we live.
The Nebraska and Sheridan Road Bridges Reconstruction, the Convergence Center Project on the Hilltop at Bradley University, the Douglas A. MacArthur Bridge Reconstruction, the Main and University Rebuild, the Scott Lewis West Main Brownstone Development, and soon Sheridan Road down to Richmond, as well as a possible Student Residence Project at Main and Garfield.
Combined we and the private sector will have spent over 155 million dollars to rebuild just the southern part of District Two where you and I live! But much work needs to be done. A capital bill must eventually be passed which will allow a reconstruction of Western, from Lincoln to Farmington Road, and then all the way east on West Main Street to the Downtown. This is a matter of time, and the upcoming November Election may create an environment to pass such an omnibus bill which will help rebuild many streets in Peoria. We are working with our State Lawmakers to this end.
As all of this is done, we will lift up the West Bluff and create its new Golden Age with outdoor dining and a more attractive green look, with more accessibility for runners, walkers, shoppers, and bicyclists.
I look forward to insuring that, with YOU, we have a gleaming and attractive new student resident housing development on the block bounding Main, Garfield, Russell, and Orange. I will soon convene a meeting with the West Bluff Council to review the Vecino Companies proposed plans.
I wish all of you the best and will see all of you soon.
