Spring is around the corner and the clocks are moved ahead.
I succeeded in scuttling a deleterious change in zoning requested by Western Street Cleaners. This would have involved a “C” designation in an area close to fragile neighborhoods and our beautiful Western Street Greenway.
In May, further refinements will be made with signal optimizers being installed at numerous West Bluff intersections. We can then better assess traffic patterns, and, as previously indicated, we also will be scrutinizing further calming measures east of MacArthur.
The signal optimizers at various West Bluff intersections will allow light changes to occur more quickly when inordinate traffic stacking is seen.
I believe Caterpillar’s announcement shows that they agree with the need to have more pedestrian friendly and multimodal choices. Indeed, the Second District is the leader in implementing Complete Streets innovations.
The Council is looking at allowing food trucks to operate in our City. While the initial thought was whether we wanted to permit them in the downtown, I reminded the Council that there may be a push to operate them in other areas. Stay tuned.
Also, the Emerald Ashborer is here. Trees will be removed which cannot be saved on the public right of way, as per Council Discussion and Forestry Division input.
As always, it is a pleasure to serve you!
Best, Chuck
